rough storyboard attempt

This is my storyboard 1st attempt

Mini self reflection:
This was the biggest challenge I have faced in the whole media studies lesson, I really struggled to find a really solid footing on how to convey emotions to the viewers at first. But with inputs and words of wisdom from Mr Nick, I managed to delete some of these parts and transform it into better parts. Without him, I would've been lost through the whole project up until the end.

My project storyboard

 This is my project storyboard

Mini self reflection:
I think I did pretty well in this assignment as there is only the first 4 shots to analyze, considering that i now have the idea of camera shots and angles+describing a scene. This project is not a big challenge for me, although I have one slight problem which is my limited artistic skills. But with that being said, it still could be covered by descriptions next to the drawings.

My advert proposal

This is my advert project proposal

Product: Nike basketball GT series, Bali colourway.

For years, Nike has kept the slogan, "just do it". This slogan has lived on through young teens and adults lives as a blazing motivation to do more and accomplish more while still keeping the spirit alive. This would also mean that my advert would be directed towards 12-20 year old people Indonesian people as a target audience (active students) who want to discover or even rediscover what their talents, capabilities and skills are. Firstly, my character would walk into the basketball court after a long day of frustration, looking at the dry texts of his crush, the city smog all around him. He would then rock with a new pair of shoes (The Nike GT series Bali colourway) his mom gave him and when he ties the shoe, the set would suddenly be colorful and clear and suddenly he would stand looking at the sights of the sunset, waves and a hoop. A ball suddenly rolls into his feet, and he looks up to the sights of the Indonesian basketball star Brandon Jawato wanting to challenge him on court, the song, "Bali" by Rich Brian plays as my character cooks him with crazy skills and some sunglasses on with one hand, a mocktail on his other. The slogan would be,"Nike-Suave with the Swoosh"

Text analysis- A Quiet Place

This is my video analysis for the movie, "a quiet place"

The text was an extract from the movie, "The Quiet Place". The filmmaker wanted to show that the setting was an quiet and abandoned city that has been neglected for a long time, that there is no sound allowed to be made and that something bad happened to the city.

Firstly, as said previously as well, the filmmaker made it clear that he wanted to portray the setting of the town as quiet and abandoned. This is proven by the establishing shot/shots that are dominated by long/extreme long shots to show the audience on how vast the town is and how empty and lifeless it is at the same time. The shots in this extract of the movie is dominated with static shots as well further emphasize that there is no single movement at all in the city. The mis en scene also proves this idea further as there is basically no one other then the characters portrayed in the city. The constant dust and cobwebs on every scene suggests that there was no act of care or maintenance in the buildings in the town, possibly for quite a long time. Sound wise, there is no/minimum diegetic sound further indicating that there is absolutely nobody living and present in the town.

Mini self reflection:

This assignment was not that hard for me as I already feel like I have the critical thinking skills, what's missing is that I have to apply more media theories and languages in order to boost my score. In my opinion, the 80 percent that Mr Nick gave to me is considered a,'well done', as going back to the fact that this si my first attempt in the text analysis.

Media Studies Miniproject

This is my media miniproject analysis.

Epilogue - 2023-24 AS level media studies minipro
ject

  1. Extreme long shot/static

  • This long shot is used to show the subjects loneliness in the midst of a mess, emphasising the feeling of further isolation, increases the gloomy vibe

  1. Over the shoulder/boom

  • Emphasises more on what the subject is currently doing, the slow boom creates the effect of interest and suspense, what is the subject reading.

  1. Medium/static

  • Focuses on the subject's expression, how he focuses on finishing the chapters of the book in a rush, the look of uneasiness on his face.

  1. Long shot/static

  • Focuses back on the loneliness of the subject, as the viewers somewhat have a feeling and the vibe of what is happening.

  1. Extreme long shot/Static

  • Once again, another extreme long shot to further suggest the loneliness of the subject.

  1. Long shot/static (clock)

  • Emphasises that time is ticking and eventually everything would be owned by time.

  1. Medium/over the shoulder/static

  • This is used to zap the viewer's attention back to the book.

  1. Medium Shot

  • To bring back the viewers attention to the subjects emotions and expressions, the second medium shot is used to create an effect of:

  • mystriousness and uneasiness once more to the viewers.

  1. High angle/static

  • Straightforward, focuses back on the book, but this time, emphasizing the closing of the book. Which indicates the ending of a chapter.

  1. Medium shot/static

  • Showing the subjects true emotions and the contemplation, to clarify truly the subjects uneasiness.

  1. Extreme long shot/static

  • To show the characters packing his bags to show that he is,”packing up the essentials

  • ” The messy room in frame shows the things he will leave behind what he can’t pick up with him anymore.

  1. Tracking/medium shot

  • This short duration of a frame also kind of e=shows the characters emotion as he is bowing down, showing signs of further contemplation.

  1. Long shot/ static

The most important shot of the video, shows the subject walking slowly to the door. Opens the door but looks forward,

indicating that he is looking into a,”new chapter”, but looks back again to once again think about the past.

After the light cuts off, the smack of the door indicates,

“the closing of the chapter”

The true meaning of this project is showing how we experience a lot of things and make different memories

(the messy room), the closing of the book indicates the closing of the chapter while the constant contemplation is depicted by the subject looking back into the room

and looking forward.

The closed doors means that a chapter is closed. Not to be touched once more.

We chose static shots to emphasize the uneasiness and gloominess. That it is calm. The song, “No Surprises” by the band Radiohead adds the sad and gloomy vibe.

Mini self reflection:

I think me and my partner have worked together really well on this first project. We collaborated

our own ideas on camera angles an ideas on how to act and how to set the mis en scene

at the end, everything worked well, creating an incredible first project for ourselves, we've

had issues with the duration, but as it is our first project, Mr Nick still pardoned us.

Ronaldo shopee ad 2019:Shopee 2019 Ronaldo ad

1. Target Audience

  • Identify the intended audience for the advertisement. Consider factors such as age group, gender, interests, and social/cultural background.

Would target the medium backgrounds
as shopee is categorized as one.

2. Message and Purpose

  • Analyze the central message or theme conveyed by the advertisement.

There is no clear message except 1, which is Ronaldo using and dancing to shopee, The purpose of this ad is to use Ronaldo as the world icon he is

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • Examine the visual and verbal elements of the advertisement.

  • Interpret the symbolic meaning and subtext that may exist in the ad's imagery and language.

As this is my simple analysis, I used a simple advertiesement. The meaning is just basic,
when Ronaldo uses shopee, you can use it too.

People will interpret it as unique.

Title of the Advertisement: WE ARE ALL IN THE FINALS, NBA FINALS AD 22-23

Brand/Product:NBA (National Basketball Association)

Duration of the Advertisement:1:05

Brief Overview/Summary:This advertisement is used to promote this year's NBA finals.

video link:NBA finals ad 2023

1. Target Audience

  • Identify the intended audience for the advertisement. Consider factors such as age group,

gender, interests, and social/cultural background.
This advertisement basically intends to target everyone as in every frame,
there are different backgrounds shown with one person watching/playing basketball,
it shows

1.An Asian person anxiously watching basketball.
2.An African American person watching basketball.
3.African American community playing basketball in their neighborhoods.
4. An Elderly person watching the NBA
5.Men and women watching the NBA
6. A presumably rich man in a suit watching the NBA.
7.People watching the NBA with a lot of people
8.People experiencing the NBA through radio.

With these facts in check, it further suggests this ad is emphasizing that everyone watches the NBA
and everyone CAN watch the NBA
and share the sadness, sore and happiness and glory.

2. Message and Purpose

  • Analyze the central message or theme conveyed by the advertisement.

  • Discuss the purpose of the advertisement and what the brand/product aims to achieve through it.

Almost as simillar as the first point, the central message of this ad is that EVERYONE can watch the NBA regardless of age,
ethnicity and gender as it shows
different age groups, races and ethnicies reacting to the game. The purpose of this advertisement is to immerse the viewers into
the experience of watching the NBA finals just through a 1 minute ad, it shows the potential expressions and reactions no matter the
media your watching from and where you are watching from. This advert really brings the emotions of the NBA finals alive.

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • Examine the visual and verbal elements of the advertisement.

  • Interpret the symbolic meaning and subtext that may exist in the ad's imagery and language.

1.This advertisement uses the song, "hometown glory", by Adele, the song has the slow tune which enchances the vibe
of suspense. This is used to further emphasize the feeling and emotion of watching basketball. The song also has a meaning of
"coming back to our roots" which shows the meaning of being an NBA fan supporting their hometown team
(what NBA fans usually do).
This advertisement also shows NBA legends receiving the ultimate prize of the NBA, the Championship Ring.
A straightforward element of this
advertisement is as mentioned, literally showing the emotions of watching the NBA regardless age, race and gender.

4. Effectiveness

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the advertisement in capturing the attention of the target audience.

  • Discuss the persuasive techniques used, such as emotional appeal, humor, celebrity endorsement, etc.

This advertisement is very effective as it shows the possible things that could happen in the NBA finals,
the emotional appeal shows from
the different emotions and uses the phrase,"Champagne or just pain",
a short phrase that summarizes what happens in the maximum of 7 games
that is in the NBA. It also uses a dark filter to apply the suspense. The song also has a meaning of appreciating our
roots and hometown.
As explained in the previous section.
This advert also uses some well known celebrities, such as SUGA of BTS, NBA hall of famer,
5x champion Magic Johnson.
and NBA hall of famer, 3x champion Larry Bird.
All showing their championship rings,
depicting of what you can win in the NBA. And the highlights of the most iconic
shots and players that have stepped their foot on an NBA court.

5. Personal Response

  • Share your personal opinion and reaction to the advertisement.

  • Reflect on how the advertisement made you feel and whether it resonates with you.

As a fan of the NBA myself, I see thie advertisement making waves especially in the emotional element,
I have also felt the ups and downs
of supporting my favorite NBA team,
all of the emotions that apply there are very much true. The spin of a ball can determine your emotions,
how you act
and how you feel throughout the day.

6. Comparative Analysis (Optional)

  • If relevant, compare the advertisement with other ads from the same brand or competitors.

  • Discuss how this advertisement stands out or differs from others in the same category.

Mini self reflection:
I think I have done well on this particular assignment, I have managed to develop my
critical thinking using this research and famailiarize myself with media studies type critical
thinking. At first, I struggled in finding the right advertisements. But I managed to wiggle through
the troubles at the end.
