This is my work for Stuart Hall's Representation Theory specifically in Indonesian depiction.
Representations are the ways that specific social groups are portrayed, depicted and given an image and reputation to the audience. In Stuart Hall's point of view, characters/objects are not given a meaning until the media gives it a specific meaning that the movie creators want the audience to perceive. Stereotypes are one of the elements in Stuart Hall's representation theory which means an often generalized description on a specific social group, it is used in media to give a direct tool to convey meaning and the theme of the movie and each character in it, the types of social groups involved are: Religion, Age, Ethnicity, Gender, Race and race.
INDONESIAN YOUNG PEOPLE (University students) VS OLD PEOPLE
YOUNG PEOPLE
In Indonesian news, although there are highlights for young Indonesian people, when there is, "Mahasiswa Indonesia", which means Indonesian University students, out of the 5 first news/pictures, there will be 3 that shows them enganging in a violent rallies.
Image: They are often represented as reckless, violent people.
Mis-en-scene: Young people with their own university suits, eyes and mouth wide open, scruffy clothes, messy.
